Mount Kailash is considered the most sacred mountain on earth — holy to Buddhists, Hindus, Jains, and the indigenous Bön tradition. In Buddhist cosmology it is identified with Mount Meru, the axis of the universe, the abode of Chakrasamvara and Vajravarahi. A single circumambulation (kora) of the 52 km circuit is said to erase the sins of a lifetime; 108 circuits bring liberation in this very life. The kora crosses the Dolma La pass at 5,636 metres. Nearby Lake Manasarovar (4,590 m) — one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world — is considered sacred as a wish-fulfilling lake in Buddhist texts. The landscape of western Tibet around Kailash is among the most awe-inspiring on earth: vast high plains, turquoise lakes, and the lone pyramid of Kailash rising above all.

How to get there
Fly to Lhasa or Kathmandu, then overland journey of 1,000+ km. The classic Kailash circuit (kora) is 52 km.
- Fly to Lhasa (LXA) or overland from Kathmandu (Nepal–Tibet border, ~4 days drive via permitted route).|All four required permits arranged through licensed Tibet travel agency — plan 3-6 months ahead.|Overland to Darchen base camp (1,000km+ from Lhasa). The 52km kora takes 3 days (faster with acclimatisation).
