💡 Best done Oct-Feb. Start in Kathmandu, fly to Varanasi, travel by road. Budget 2 nights per site minimum.

🕌 Eight Great Buddhist Sites

Comprehensive ⏱ 18-21 days 📍 India / Nepal

Extends the four holy places to include Rajgir, Vaishali, Shravasti and Sankasya - eight sites directly connected to the Buddha.

💡 Requires a guide and private vehicle for the last four sites. Nalanda can be added near Rajgir.

📿 Bihar Buddhist Circuit

Focused ⏱ 7-10 days 📍 India

Deep dive into Bihar - the heartland of Buddhist history. Bodh Gaya, Nalanda, Rajgir, Vaishali and surrounding sites.

💡 Gaya is the nearest airport (10km from Bodh Gaya). Hire a car for the full circuit - trains are slow.

🏔️ Kathmandu Valley Pilgrimage

Compact ⏱ 4-6 days 📍 Nepal

The great Tibetan Buddhist sites of Kathmandu - Boudhanath, Swayambhunath, Kopan Monastery and Namo Buddha nearby.

💡 All sites reachable by taxi from Kathmandu. Namo Buddha requires a day trip or overnight stay at the monastery.

🧘 Tibetan Monastic Circuit (South India)

Focused ⏱ 5-7 days 📍 India

The great Tibetan monasteries of Karnataka - Bylakuppe and Mundgod - home to Sera, Ganden, Drepung, and dozens more.

💡 Fly to Bangalore or Mangalore. Bylakuppe requires a Protected Area Permit (PAP) for foreign visitors - apply online 2 weeks ahead.

⛰️ Himachal & Ladakh Circuit

Adventure ⏱ 14-21 days 📍 India

From Dharamsala (seat of the Dalai Lama) through Spiti Valley to the remote monasteries of Ladakh.

💡 June-September only - roads are closed in winter. Acclimatise in Leh for 2 days before visiting high sites.
