Bodh Gaya is the most sacred site in Buddhism — the place where Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment beneath the Bodhi Tree. The Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, marks the exact spot of the Buddha’s awakening and draws pilgrims from every Buddhist tradition worldwide. The Vajrasana (Diamond Throne) beneath the Bodhi Tree is considered the spiritual centre of the universe in Buddhist cosmology. The site hosts major annual events including the Kagyu Monlam, Kalachakra initiations, and Nyingma Monlam, making it a convergence point for all four schools of Tibetan Buddhism. The surrounding area has monasteries from every Buddhist country — Tibetan, Japanese, Thai, Burmese, and more — making it a remarkable living cross-section of world Buddhism.
